Perfect day on the water

Today was beautiful start to finish.  We decided to do an ocean fishing adventure.  We ventured about 10 miles out into the surprisingly calm Atlantic. Our captain, John had a constant smile and a big ol' stainless steel mug he was constantly drinking from and the first mate was an incredibly crabby woman, who didn't seem to like anyone on board - very interesting people!

(yes, this Canadian woman is puking!)

I know she looks happy here, but she definitely was a crabby lady

On our trip we saw beautiful homes, boats and lots of seals and porpoises.  Once we reached the fishing ground, we all threw our lines in.  The pollack were biting with no bait!  Most of the fish were pretty small, but it was easy fishing and lots of fun.  And the day was so gorgeous it didn't even matter.  After a few hours of fishing, we pulled up our line and went searching for lobster.  The boat we were on has a few hundred lobster pots out there too, so we pulled pots until we had enough keepers for everyone on the boat.  We were thrilled with our small bag of fish fillets (the crabby first mate cleaned 'em) and our four lobsters and were excited to bring it all home for a big meal!  Then our big hearted oldest child did the unthinkable - he gave his lobster to the crabby first mate.  WHAT!!!!! To top it off, we had already generously tipped her.  We can only hope that his act of kindness makes her a little nicer to the next group.  Even without that fourth lobster, we finished the day with a delicious meal.

  1. Usually when someone pukes, everybody pukes. Way to keep it together. Is that Devin's steak next to the lobsters? Another great day!!!

  2. Yep, that's Devin's steak. He did really enjoy the fish though. Devin, Owen & I all felt a little sick when we saw her puking, but we pulled it together.
